These matchbooks were created to be part of an installation titled, Inflammatory, where they were free for the taking. The work plays with a colloquial expression - but when viewers notice that the word "built" has been replaced by "burnt," they are confronted with the incriminating fact that they are holding a matchbook in their hands. This raises the question of which is preferable, "built" or "burnt," and implicates the viewer in the construction and/or destruction of empire.
